The Park Hyatt is the only luxury Hotel in Toronto without an adjoining residence/condominium building and occupies an enviable location in Yorkville.
The Royal Ontario Museum is across the street and there are upscale shops (Louis Vuitton Maison, Vera Wang etc.) and restaurants a-plenty within walking distance of the Hotel. There is an underground train station within a few minutes walk so accessing the rest of the city is easy if you don’t want to drive. Overnight valet parking is $42.
The Hotel has a business climate but my children were welcomed with orange juice and cookies in the room. It’s also pet-friendly and there is an additional $100 one-time fee for bringing four-legged family members up to 50lbs.
Deluxe rooms are large (400-500 square feet) and very traditionally furnished. If you like glass paneling, this is your place! Connecting rooms for extended families are also available in addition to cribs and bed rails, upon request. There are no coffee makers in the rooms but there is a complimentary machine in the cabinet of a room right off the Reception Area. If you don’t feel like “exploring” for a caffeine fix, the Hotel adjoins a “Second Cup” café, accessible through the lobby, with a selection of “on-the-go” options.
Wi-Fi is free of charge throughout the Park Hyatt and during my visit, I discovered two “wow” spaces. There is a 10,000 square-foot “Stillwater Spa”, one of the first Hotel Spas in the city, proprietarily owned and operated, with 17 treatment rooms.
The cozy “Roof Lounge” offers breathtaking views of the city’s skyline. Access to the Fitness Center and the Relaxation Rooms (with sauna and Jacuzzi) of the Spa are complimentary for guests.
The Hotel has been home to celebrities and dignitaries. The 2500 square foot Algonquin Suite houses a full-length, freestanding mirror that Celine Dion left behind after her stay. Russell Crowe occupied this suite for a few months while starring in the “Cinderella Man” and a few scenes from one of last season’s episodes of “Suits” were filmed here as well.
Service is very personable and efficient at the Park Hyatt. I was impressed by the loyalty of its staff - many are long-serving and friendly and I could tell they were proud to be a part of the Hotel. Four days after checkout, I realized that I had left a favorite pair of shoes in the room. When I spoke with Paul in Housekeeping, he informed me that I had also forgotten to pack my blazer and my daughter’s jacket and that he would be mailing these to my home address without charge.
