Review of Ritz Carlton Amelia Island, FL

Ritz Carlton Amelia Island is one of the few resorts in the US that can boast both an 18-hole golf course as well as beachfront access.  It’s a sprawling property about 30 minutes drive from Jacksonville Airport or if you’re arriving by private jet, the Fernandina Municipal Airport is just a few minutes away.  The prestigious Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Car Show is held on the grounds annually.

This is a very family-friendly Hotel with 446 spacious guest rooms, all with private, solid-walled balconies.  There is a Kids Club with a macaw mascot and you can order a “Pirate Tuck-in” for your little ones.  The poolside is tiered like a stadium seating so that you can maintain great views.  The food is excellent throughout the property but special mention must be given to the delightful tasting menu at “SALT Restaurant”.  This was my second dining experience at SALT and I’ve enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menu both times.  It remains a memorable experience.

When rates are favorable, I am a huge advocate of the Club Room categories at Ritz Carlton properties.  If you have young children, they can add enormous value as food presentations are available throughout each day - substantial continental breakfasts, light snacks, hors d' oeuvres, beverages and sweets.  If you just need a glass of milk for your child, or a peanut butter sandwich or cookie, the club can usually accommodate these requests very easily and at no additional expense.  The lounges are often spacious, with a computer station for printing your boarding passes, and are great spaces for meeting up with family and friends and having a snack or a glass of champagne at the end of the day.  At this Hotel, we enjoyed crab legs one evening and sushi the next, in addition to a variety of salads, cheeses and breads.

You’ll be short-changing yourself if you miss out on a spa treatment.  Treatment rooms and relaxation lounges are luxurious and filled with every conceivable convenience.  A visit to the gelato counter in Café 4750 is also highly recommended.  The Hotel flew in a gelato specialist from Italy to show them how to make the best product.

Service is a hallmark throughout the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island.  If you haven’t already heard about the adventures of Joshie Hurn, a forgotten toy that toured the Hotel and had his memories photographed for his family, then it’s worth investigating.
