When we turned into the driveway of The Breakers, my children let out an audible “wow”. There’s no doubt…it’s a grand Hotel!
An original Henry Flagler property, the ceilings are high and ornately painted, and there are antiques and tapestries throughout the public spaces, in addition to boutiques such as Ralph Lauren, Guerlain and of course, Lilly Pulitzer. Despite the ornate décor, the Hotel is pleasantly family-friendly. There are children (and nannies) everywhere and the staff is personable and welcoming.
This is the type of Resort that can easily keep its guests on-property for an entire stay. There are four (4) pools and twenty five (25) private “beach bungalows” available for rental. These offer a full bathroom, some with an outdoor shower, refrigerators, WiFi, TVs and a personal safe.
Families with young ones can spend the day between beach and pool, take naps on the sofa and day bed and dine without having to return to their rooms or a restaurant. During the Hotel’s peak season, it is advisable to book the bungalows well in advance.
The Breakers boasts a self-contained “Family Entertainment Center”. There is a large arcade, a Kid’s Club with a movie room, a separate Toddler’s Playroom and an outdoor sports court and play area. The “Coconut Crew Camp” welcomes children 3-12 and the Counselors are friendly and helpful.
Guest rooms are elegant and bright. If you are travelling with a family I recommend the more-spacious Premier Room category. Marble bathrooms are large with deep soaking tubs. Oceanfront rooms have balconies that make you feel as if you are sitting just above the Atlantic. The Hotel can provide complimentary rollaway beds, cribs and diaper pails and your room can be “baby-proofed” if requested.
The Breakers has a very high employee to guest ratio (in peak season almost 4:1). This is evident at every turn and I was especially appreciative of the visible presence of Lifeguards actively monitoring the beachfront and all of the pools.
The Hotel offers nine (9) restaurants, although “Top of the Point” is not actually on the grounds but guests can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service if they wish to dine there. This is the only restaurant that does not offer a children’s menu. Breakfast is served in the beautiful “Circle” Restaurant or at the “Beach Club”. Grab a coffee, ice cream or baked treat from the “News and Gourmet” located in the Palm Courtyard.
WiFi and high-speed internet access are free in all room categories and guests also receive complimentary access to the Fitness Center. We received an upgrade from a Premier Room to an Oceanfront Suite, compliments of Virtuoso and the generosity of the Front Desk Agents. It was a magnificent room with amazing ocean views and two balconies.
Other complimentary Virtuoso amenities at the Breakers are continental breakfast for 2 daily, and a $100 per stay Resort Credit applicable to The Breakers most prized amenities including dining, golf, spa services, shopping and more.
