Airboats and gators

A trip to Florida is not complete without a visit to the Everglades.  I’m not going to lie…it’s hot in summer but very interesting.  Try to go first thing in the morning to avoid afternoon thunderstorm disruptions.  My children loved the Everglades Holiday Park, home of the Gator Boys.

They scanned the waters, screaming in delight as they counted alligator sightings, and though I sat and smiled, I was actually mentally recalling some of the scenes from that anaconda movie with Jennifer Lopez.  The Boat Captains were entertaining and knowledgeable and would try to maneuver as close to the gators as possible so we could take photos and be thrilled.

We spent almost as much time in the kitschy gift shop as we did on the airboat tour, wandering the shelves looking for alligator tooth necklaces and other precious mementos.  I strongly recommend buying tickets online to save yourself a long wait once you get there.
